We are excited to announce that this year’s whole school production will be (loosely) inspired by the classic adventure Around the World in 80 Days. While we can’t promise a globe-trotting journey quite as ambitious as Phileas Fogg’s, we can promise an unforgettable show, and the first step in our adventure begins with auditions.
This page contains everything you need to prepare over the December break. As soon as we return to school in January, auditions will take place, so please make sure you’re ready.
All students who audition will be expected to complete all three elements listed below. Full details and supporting materials can be found on this page.
(Think of it as gathering your passport, tickets, and travel bag before setting off!)
AUDITION DETAILS
1. Dance
This will be taught and performed on the day.
No preparation needed.
2. Singing
Please prepare one verse and one chorus from either of the following songs:
“Dance Monkey” – Tones and I
“Shut Up and Dance With Me” – Walk the Moon
(Lyrics and video links are attached.)
3. Acting
Choose one of the short monologues provided and prepare it for performance.
Thank you so much! If we’ve missed anything, or if you have any questions, please let us know.
We can’t wait to begin this adventure… even if we’re doing it in slightly fewer than 80 days! 🌏

Unfortunately, students who attend Ugama classes until 5pm will not be able to join this time, as these classes take priority. We are very sorry that the rehearsal schedule clashes, but Ugama must be attended. Those who attend Umaga classes until 3pm can join.
Audition Materials
Dance Monkey: Tones and I
Ooh, I see you, see you, see you every time
And oh my, I, I, I like your styleYou, you make me, make me, make me wanna cry
And now I beg to see you dance just one more time
So they say, "Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh
I've never seen anybody do the things you do before"
They say, "Move for me, move for me, move for me, ay
And when you're done, I'll make you do it all again"

Shut Up and Dance With: Me Walk The Moon
We were victims of the night,
The chemical, physical, kryptonite
Helpless to the
bass and the fading light
Oh, we were bound to get together,
Bound to get together.
She took my arm,
I don't know how it happened.
We took the floor and she said,
Oh, don't you dare look back.
Just keep your eyes on me."
I said, "You're holding back,"
She said, "Shut up and dance with me!"
This woman is my destiny
She said, "Ooh-ooh-hoo,
Shut up and dance with me!

Monologue 1 – “The Determined Explorer”
(Confident, brave, adventurous)
“I’ve made up my mind — I’m going on this journey, no matter what anyone says! The world is huge, and I want to see every corner of it. Egypt, India, the Wild West… imagine the stories I’ll bring back! I know it won’t be easy, and yes, I might get lost once or twice… but that’s the fun of it! Adventure is calling, and I’m not staying home another minute!”
Monologue 2 – “The Worried Traveller”
(Nervous, comedic, expressive)
“Oh dear… I don’t know if this is a good idea at all. Trains and boats and hot-air balloons? What if everything goes terribly wrong? What if I fall out? What if I get left behind? I mean… I want to see the world, really I do! But maybe we could start with a nice, safe picnic instead? No? We’re really doing this? Alright then… deep breaths… here goes nothing!”
Monologue 3 – “The Excited Guide”
(Friendly, enthusiastic, energetic)
“Welcome! Welcome! You’re just in time — the adventure is about to begin! I’ll be your guide, and trust me, we’re going to see the most amazing places. Camels in Egypt, markets in India, cowboys in the Wild West… oh, you’re going to love it! But you must keep up — things move fast when you’re travelling around the world! Stick with me, and I’ll make sure you don’t miss a single moment.”
