Head of Primary Message Week 17

We enjoyed a sea of house colour for the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Sports Days this week. A special thank you to the PE and Year Group staff who facilitated such a wonderful event. The students impressed also with a competitive spirit and ethos of fair play. Running, jumping, throwing and climbing to earn House Points. Not to mention the parents' race, which was equally competitive this year. 👏 👏 Thank you to all parents who supported the events, we hope for the same good weather next week for Yr3 to Yr6! 🤞

Seesaw Knowledge Centre

We know from parent feedback and analytics that Seesaw is doing a great job of keeping parents updated and informed about all aspects of school life. We have streamlined as many processes as we can to ensure that Seesaw is the single and only platform needed where ever possible. Sometimes there are exceptions, such as booking Parent - Teacher Meetings and checking ECA schedules in EduLink, but apart from that, Seesaw is all parents need.

We have had some parents asking for a more details on the following:

  • What's the difference between the Family and Student login?

  • Who can I message using Seesaw?

  • How can I add work completed at home to Seesaw?

  • Which classes should my child be a part of within Seesaw?

  • Can I download and share items from Seesaw?

  • Who owns the data within Seesaw? Is it secure?

  • Can additional family members have access to Seesaw?

  • How do we ensure our children are safe using Seesaw messages?

We have put together a Seesaw Knowledge Centre HERE on the Primary Newsfeed. The answers to all these questions (and more) are available in an easy to read format designed for parents. I hope you find it useful.

Did you also know that pinned to the top of each child's Seesaw journal, we have included the most useful links:

  • Primary Newsfeed ℹ️

  • A School Calendar 🗓️

  • Canteen Order Form 🌯

  • Timetables 👟

  • Traffic Info 🚘

  • Curriculum Information 📚

ECA Programme (Post-Ugama ➕)

We are delighted to add more ECAs to our comprehensive programme. It is vital all students have the opportunity to extend their studies and interests beyond the school day. Following parent feedback, we understand the need for more ECAs taking place after Ugama at 3pm. Therefore, this week we added in more provision to make this possible. Parents will be informed today by email that their children have been accepted onto their chosen ECA for next week. It's great that we will now have more creativity, movement and construction happening each and every day. If you have any questions about Primary ECAs, please do not hesitate to send me a message in Seesaw.

TT Rock Stars Heat Maps 🎸

Knowing the times tables (and their associated division facts) supports mathematical learning and understanding. Students who have a strong grasp of times tables tend to be more self-assured when learning new concepts.

Imagine you were asked you to solve the following problem in your head:

Jack has 56 chocolates. He wants to share these chocolates between himself and seven friends. How many chocolates does each individual get?

To solve this problem, you need to add 1 to 7 and obtain 8 and then divide 56 by 8. If you know that 7 × 8 = 56 then you do not need to devote any working memory resources to working out this division.

This week, we are adding individualised Heat Maps to Seesaw for all students in Year 3 and above. This useful indicator allows students and parents to map progress over time and see which multiplication facts to focus on.

If you have any questions about your child's TT Rock Stars Heat Map, please simply send me a message in Seesaw. Continued congratulations to all those receiving both TTRS and Numbots certificates weekly. 👏 👏

If you have any questions about any aspect of school life, please do not hesitate to message me in Seesaw.
