Head of Primary Message Week 34 & 35

Looking Ahead: New Classes, New Faces, and Moving Up

With just four weeks remaining in the academic year, there is so much happening across the Primary School. It’s a busy and exciting time, and we are already looking ahead as we prepare for the new school year.

As part of that preparation, we are in the process of setting up the new class groups on Seesaw. If you are logged in as a parent, you will now be able to see the new class group for your child for the next academic year.

For students in Year 1 to Year 6 in August 2025, each new Seesaw class will include a class code (I, S, B, or T) and the name of the new teacher. For Early Years, Pre Kindy, Kindy and Reception, there will be one group for each year level to enable more flexible sharing of information as the year progresses. Additional information for Early Years families has already been shared on Seesaw.

We will also be hosting our annual ‘Moving Up’ Day very soon, with details to be shared shortly via Seesaw. This is a really valuable experience, allowing students to spend time with their new teacher and visit the new learning spaces they’ll be using in August.

We’re very pleased to welcome just two new classroom teachers to our Primary team in August: Mr Tyrone Mpofu will be joining Year 6, and Mr Chris Kee will be joining the Year 5 team. All other class teachers are existing members of the ISB staff. A special video message from our new team members will be shared with students during the Moving Up Day and also posted on Seesaw for families to view.

If you are having any issues seeing your child’s new class or if anything appears to be missing, please just message on Seesaw. Instructions on how to view the new class list are also available, but please note that these can only be accessed when logged in as a student, not as a parent. We’re happy to help if needed.

Talent, Tributes & Turning the Page

Meanwhile, there’s lots happening in the coming days. For students in Years 4 to 6, entries are now open for the ISB Talent Show, a fantastic event led by our House Captains to close out their student leadership calendar. 🔴 🔵 🟡 🟢

Next week, we’ll also be celebrating a very special occasion, our 🎓Year 6 Ceremony. This formal event marks the end of Primary School for our oldest students and is a moment of real pride for families and staff alike. Following the ceremony, we will also be electing our new House Captains for 2025–26. Families, students and staff will be invited to read anonymised profiles and vote for the students they believe will best represent their House. Keep an eye out for those profiles next week.

Reporting to Parents

As we reach the final part of the year, teachers are also working hard to complete our end-of-year reporting process. At ISB, we report clearly and confidently on:

✅ Attainment (where your child is working in relation to age-related expectations)

↗️ Progress (the rate of improvement and development over time)

👏 Overall Achievement (taking all of the context into account)

We also report on wider personal and social achievements to give you a truly holistic understanding of your child’s learning journey. Our reports are robust, comprehensive, and professionally moderated. You can find out more via this special link (including a short 'explain all' video 📺).

In addition, Year 1 and Year 2 parents will receive a report on the Phonics Screening Check, which assesses how confidently children can decode and read words, a vital skill that underpins all future reading success.

The Phonics Screening Check identifies whether children have learned the essential skills needed to decode unfamiliar words. This helps us determine if they’re on track with early reading development, or if additional support is needed. The check is designed to be age-appropriate and enables teachers to fine-tune instruction and support. Read more here:

All of our assessments are internationally benchmarked, which means we compare our attainment and progress data against thousands of students globally. ISB students consistently perform above international averages, and we are incredibly proud of the effort, dedication, and quality teaching that make this possible.

Big Stages and Big Splashes

On the creative side, keep an eye out for the upcoming concerts. The Reception and Year 1 Music Concerts, where our youngest learners will take the stage, an essential opportunity to build confidence and celebrate learning in the arts. The Middle Years Music Showcase, featuring students from Year 5, Year 6, and Year 7, demonstrating clear musical progression through the years.

And finally, a big congratulations to all students in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 for their fantastic efforts in this week’s Swimming Gala. The progress on display was truly impressive and reflects the dedication of both our young swimmers and their outstanding coaches.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support during this busy but very special time of year. If you have any questions about any aspect of school life, please do not hesitate to message in Seesaw.

Mr Michael Everett | Head of Primary
