Wow! What an amazing Term 2 this has been. We have been delighted to celebrate so many tremendous events and successes. This week alone we premiered Rez & Tang on YouTube, an original creation by ISB Primary students and Mr Trent, Head of Student Development (Primary). Well done to Meagan, Qalesya, Amelia, Erin, Lucia, Ryan, Lewis, Fawwaz, Tina Sabrina and Izzafeera for writing and providing the voice overs. Episode 1 looks at the food of Brunei with future episodes being planned to focus on indigenous Brunei animals and local landmarks.
Also this week, we had the privilege to be joined by Dai Greane, an Olympic athlete and World Champion in the 400m Hurdles. Dai joined a very special question and answer session hosted by our Sports Captains with questions from both Primary and Secondary students. If you missed this unique event, you can watch again on our YouTube channel. It was fascinating to hear how Dai has approached his career and devoted himself to achieving excellence in his chosen sport, such an inspiration.
During Book Week we have celebrated all together, enjoyed audio stories read by students, staff and special guests, emersed ourselves in the Virtual Library sessions hosted by Ms Andrea, explored books that have changed the lives of our staff, completed extreme reading, designed and painted Book Rocks and dressed up as our favourite book characters. We have compiled all of the celebrations on the Primary Newsfeed: Books, Books, Books 📚👀.
In additional, we also shone a spotlight on a local Brunei author, Tina Afiqah who gave us a very special insight into her life as an author and shared some of the local folk tales that have inspired her own work.
We have also celebrated the winners of our Mighty Write competition. we have been blown away by the quality of the responses and a special congratulations to Sarah, Emmer, Safina, Emelia, Mitchell and Anggun, our Mighty Write 2022 WINNERS! Congratulations also to our Superstar Performers and certificate winners. All certificates will feature on the Blogs within Seesaw and all of the entries are available to read within the Mighty Write folders.
In recognition of Earth Hour on Saturday 26th March, we have asked the entire ISB community to participate in the Big Switch Off at 8:30pm. Our hope is that it all goes dark to demonstrate just how much power we are using to light our homes and lives.
Term 2 has been really tricky for everyone. We know just how exhausting it is to maintain 'normal life' alongside Virtual School. We are going into the end of term break in the hope of a return to on-campus provision next term but as yet have no update to share with the community. As soon as we receive any update from the MOE or MOH, we will let you know. I would like to extend a thank you to the entire ISB community for the continued support. The end of term message created by Mr Davidson and containing many of our amazing ISB students summed it all up very well.
Enjoy the break and we hope everyone makes the most of all the opportunities currently available in Brunei to get away from screens and enjoy time with friends and loved ones.
Mr Michael Everett | Head of Primary
