The first week back, after the half-term break, has given us an opportunity to look back at our successes from the past few weeks. Firstly, huge congratulations to the pupils who represented ISB Seria at the Brunei Junior Sports League Netball and Rugby tournament. They all make us so proud. I am delighted to announce that our Year 5/6 Girls Netball Team came 3rd and were presented with a trophy in today’s assembly.

A huge thank you once again to Mr. Russell, all the staff who attended and Mrs. Tomlin for their contributions to this fantastic event. The BJSL (for short) comprises of teams from ISB Bandar, ISB Seria, Jerudong International, Panaga and Hornbill schools.
A great start to the second half of the term!
The Pre-Kindy pupils learnt to roll and flatten playdough; demonstrating increasing finger strength to help them use safety scissors to make cuts around the edges of the flattened playdough. They made good attempts and also showed some wonderful concentration and resilience skills. This week, they also had a go at peeling bananas and cutting them up for their snack - which were thoroughly enjoyed! Kindy pupils focused on the topic about 'Space and Aliens'. They listened to the story 'The three little Aliens and the Big Bag Robot' and learnt many new words and the names of the planets in our solar system. In Phonics, they explored and created their own sequence of sounds by using various musical instruments.
This week, Reception have been recapping the letters and sounds in Phonics. They have also learnt the diagraphs ff, ll and ss and some of the rules associated with these sounds. In Maths, they have been looking at representing and comparing, in addition to continuing to identify and recognise numbers and subitising. The children also enjoyed creating different types of trees using a variety of materials. Year 1 have been working hard to construct complete sentences this week. They described characters using adjectives and made predictions after reading several stories. In Maths, they have learnt how to write addition number sentences and solve addition problems by carefully reading them out loud.
Year 2 have been excited to continue looking at facts and information about dinosaurs. They are working towards making a small dinosaur book for the end of term. In Topic, they are learning about herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores and how they differ in features such as eyes and teeth. In Maths, they have been working extremely hard learning and using tens and ones to solve addition problems with carrying.
Year 3 have had an exciting start to our Ancient Egypt topic, exploring an ancient tomb and learning about the artefacts often found inside. They have worked hard to recognise the features in instructions while learning how to mummify a Pharaoh and, in Science, they concreted their knowledge by mummifying some fruit. Year 3 are excited to check the results of their investigations by the end of next week. Year 4 have each picked an endangered animal and have written facts and information, in bullet points, about it. They then converted the notes to sentences for a non-chronological report. In computing, Year 4 used an app called Pages to create a selection of class birthday cards. In Maths, they continued to work on subtraction with two exchanges. Year 4 read up to Chapter 7 of their class book and completed re-directed comprehension questions.
This week Year 5 have started looking at Sci-fi writing. They continued a short story they had read and came up with some imaginative settings and creatures. In Maths, they have worked with multiplication and factors of numbers. Year 5 pupils also used a series of coordinates to plot a robot shape. In their topic, Year 5 have started to look at the future of space exploration, particularly missions to Mars. Year 6 & 7 have been working on scientific classification, categories, statistics and ranking in Science and our Doctor Doctor topic. Top trumps cards have caught their attention as a game-based way of understanding it all. In English, we have inferred facts about the abduction of the world-famous racehorse Blue Knight, writing formally as the owners Lord & Lady Stoughton to persuade Sherlock to take on the case.
Thank you to all the parents who joined me and the staff for the Year 3 and Year 4 Coffee Morning today. We are planning to have a Year 5, 6 and 7 Coffee Morning soon – watch announcements on Seesaw for more information.
