Head of Seria Campus Message

We are delighted to report that restrictions are continuing to lift across Brunei and, with the introduction of ECAs this week, school is gradually returning to ‘normal’. ART Tests (3 times per week) are still continuing - we really appreciate your help and prompt submissions of these tests on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Please continue to do so until further notice.

In addition to our Hari Raya Celebration on 27th May, the pupils today enjoyed learning all about the Platinum Jubilee Celebration of Queen Elizabeth II. The pupils looked wonderful in their red, white and blue outfits and they certainly enjoyed the scones with jam and cream. A special thank you to Mrs. Tomlin and Mrs. McCready for planning and coordinating this special event.

This week, the Pre-Kindy pupils took part in some collaborative art, on cloth. They used their creative skills and worked with different materials and textures. This activity also taught them about working in a group and honing their social skills. Fabulous learning Pre-Kindy! Reception Class have been learning how to double in maths lessons, they have enjoyed listening to 'Jack and the Beanstalk', changing the story to create their own versions during helicopter stories and planting their very own beans!

Continuing with their 'Alien Theme', Kindy pupils have been learning the names of the 8 planets in our solar system (sorry Pluto – you are no longer classified as a planet!). We enjoyed painting our favourite planets, making rocket using recycle materials and reading a story about ' How to catch a Star'.

Year 1 children have made predictions after reading part of the story ‘The Storm Whale in Winter’ by Benji Davies. In Maths, they have worked on place value and partitioning numbers. The Year 1 pupils enjoyed observing animals outdoors where they spotted some birds, monkeys, lizards and fish. Year 2 have been finding out about ‘Flat Stanley’. They have thought about the advantages and disadvantages of being flat and written extended sentences using conjunctions. They have also looked at using an apostrophe when writing contractions. In maths the Year 2s have continued to use clocks and tell the time quarter past, half past, quarter to and o’clock.

Year 3 have been classifying and investigating rocks, using chocolate to help! They have started their new class text, ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’ which has prompted some wonderful imaginative diary entries. The Year 3s have also completed their maths unit on ‘time’. Year 4 have been studying ‘lines of symmetry’ as part of our shape topic. They have also been writing chocolate themed narrative poems in literacy. They studied how shadows are formed and cast during Science lessons. Year 4s have continued with their ‘pop artwork’ by adding a dynamic background and using their own individual drawings.

Year 5 and Year 6 have been working on the links between fractions, decimals and percentages. They have worked in teams and are beginning to develop our ideas on running a small business. They have also discussed what their businesses will be and how they are going to make a profit!

Have a wonderful weekend and see you next week.
